Southeast Asia: Disaster relief after earthquakes and storms
Work in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines in full swing
26 October 2009. After a series of disasters in October 2009, Malteser International supports its partners in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines in their disaster response.
In Sumatra, Malteser International teams provide 1,700 families in the village of Pilubang in Sungai Limau sub-district with tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats and emergency kits. The rehabilitation of a primary school was started. In Vietnam, hygiene kits for 5.300 families were distributed and 670 families received iron sheets for first repairs of their houses.
In the Philippines, Malteser International supports the Philippine Association of the Order of Malta and its local partners in assisting 2,040 families in the disaster situation. Further emergency relief for about 2,800 families in remote areas is foreseen. Read more...
